ACCORDING to Ike, we couldn’t have won the war without Willys Jeep.

Funny how military vehicles have a way of becoming prestige/niche consumer products following their original service (Jeep, HUMMER, etc.)

Fact is, the Jeep Wrangler is a direct descendant of the first SUV (Jeep even predates Land Rover)  – Willys general purpose vehicle – or “Jeep” as it was later called – a World War II era utility vehicle built expressly for the Allied campaign.

American Jeeps had a decided advantage over Nazi Germany’s VW Kübelwagen – the Jeep’s were made with all-wheel drive.
