Local travel agents said they're closely monitoring the situation caused by the volcano eruption in Europe.

A travel agent with Fox World Travel in Brookfield said they've been in touch with their clients impacted by the delay.

She said some airlines are allowing rescheduling or a full refund if they can't operate because of the situation.

She also encourages clients to buy travel insurance.

"If they have insurance, insurance companies will help them as far as compensation with additional out-of-pocket expenses they may have incurred due to delays," said Alana Magestro of Fox World Travel.

Magestro said the peak season for travel to Europe starts in May and lasts through October.

So she said the good news is there aren't as many people displaced as there could have been.

But Fox World Travel is still getting a lot of calls from people worried about their travel plans.

“The airports are going to be crowded with any available seat that's left on an aircraft,” said Magestro. “They are allowing people who have been cancelled and dispersed to get on those flights, so it's going to back up for probably a good week or two.”

The travel agency said airlines are working with passengers as much as possible, to get them to their destinations.
